Making the Curtains
Genuine love and care goes into every pair of curtains manufactured by Plumbs. Everything is made by our own skilled and experienced cutters and sewers here at our factory in Preston, Lancashire. We are passionate about being the best supplier of quality made-to-measure curtains in the U.K.
Fabric Selection
A huge choice of fabrics is available. Plains, checks, stripes, florals and in a wide choice of colours. The range is constantly evolving. Our merchandise team try and combine style with innovation at every price point.
Fabrics from a wide range of suppliers including Sanderson, Swaffer and Prestigious. All fabrics must meet strict criteria of durability (measured by rub tests) and washability (virtually all Plumbs Curtains are machine washable).
New fabrics arrive every month so there's always a buzz in the fabric selection team.

Cutting Accuracy
First stage for any order is the cutting bed. The cutting bars are set for width and length to guide the rotary cutter.
This is a well tested process that delivers consistent accuracy.
PATTERN MATCHING - All floral or pattern fabrics are pattern matched down the seam. This ensures that for example flowers are visible as a complete lined up object and not disconnected when they appear across the seam.
The lining is then laid on top and cut to the same length as the curtains. Plumbs offer standard lining or the option of blackout linings.

Pinch Pleat, Eyelet & Pencil Pleat Headings
Three headings are available on Plumbs Curtains.
Pinch Pleat headings are increasingly popular. We have two methods of making pinch pleats depending on thickness of fabric. In either case the pleats will be absolutely equi-distant for a perfect finish. Plumbs pinch pleat curtains have an ingenious slider on the back of the pleat. This means that the height or drop of the curtains can be adjusted once the curtains are in place.
Eyelet headings are a contemporary look, suitable for a pole. Plumbs offer a choice of colours for the eyelet so they can be co-ordinated with the pole colour.
Pencil headings come with 3" universal heading tape. This is the most affordable option and also gives the fullest gather where this is required.

Sewn to Perfection
Plumbs sewers overlock all seams for strength and a tidy finish. Where pattern matching is needed it is the sewer's job for example to line up two halves of a flower or pattern across a seam.
Weights are added to all Plumbs Curtains along the bottom edge sealed with mitred corners for a neat finish. The weights help ensure a beautiful drape.
Plumbs always sew blind hems so you can't see the hem on the room side. We really do strive for perfection.
The next stage after the lining is sewn, sees the curtains go to the pinning table to fine tune the drop to the correct length.

Pelmets and Accessories
Over half Plumbs' curtain customers order co-ordinating pelmets and accessories. We always make these from the same roll of fabric as the curtains to ensure a perfect colour match. For this reason it makes sense to order everything at the same time.
Three pelmet styles are available. Ask your consultant for details as it depends what sort of rail or pelmet board you have in place.
Cushions and tie-backs come in a range of shapes, sizes and styles.
There is also the option of co-ordinating products such as dining chair covers, reupholstery, matching bedspreads or footstools.

A Careful Check
We actually hang every pair of pinch pleat curtains before they leave the factory. This is done so that we can preform the natural folds of the curtain (in line with the pinch pleats).
All curtains receive a complete inspection and are checked against the original measures before being returned to the Plumbs Consultant. He or she will then be in touch to arrange a convenient time to fit the new curtains.
